The launch of the Wessex Charity Awards 2010 was celebrated by local sponsors, supporters and organisers on Monday 19 April at the Winchester Guildhall. The Awards give star status to the special people who work and volunteer in the charity sector putting other people first and making a huge difference to their lives. Founder of the Awards, Jenny Warner, of PAS Charity Recruitment welcomed representatives of the main local sponsors: The Hendy Group, Rothmans Accountants, Lester Aldridge LLP, The Daily Echo and The Coast 106FM as well as many other sponsors and supporters from across the Wessex region which covers Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Surrey and West Sussex. If you’ve been helped in a special way by an individual or an organisation in the charity sector, now’s your chance to say “thank you” by nominating them for the Wessex Charity Awards 2010, called the “Charity Oscars” last year by the Press. Lots of nominations for the five categories have already been received from a wide range of charities, large and small. It’s very easy to nominate: just visit www.wessexcharityawards.co.uk and complete the entry forms. Winning an Award helps an individual or a charity to gain prestige and recognition for their hard work in the region. All fifteen finalists will have their work showcased at the glittering Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony on Thursday 30 September. 300 people will attend the ceremony in The Winchester Guildhall. Debbie Thrower, the popular TV presenter will introduce the finalists and announce the winners of the five categories: Charity of the Year, Chief Executive of the Year, Fundraising Team of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Trustee Board of the Year. Everyone can keep up-to-date with news about The Wessex Charity Awards by looking at the Daily Echo and the Hampshire Chronicle, who are the media partners of the Awards or following events on BBC Radio Solent and The Coast 106FM. Last year’s Wessex Charity Awards Chief Executive of the Year, Martin Edwards of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice said: “Over the next few weeks we’re going to be hearing a lot from politicians about how they intend to change things in this country, but it’s important to remember that there are many unsung heroes in the charity sector who are already changing society. These Awards are to give them the recognition they rarely get, but so richly deserve.” Jenny Warner of PAS Charity Recruitment said: “Please don’t forget to get your nomination in by 30 April and give your favourite charity the chance to be a Charity Star!” Ends Words: 425
