Sarah Phillips, Partner at Thomas Eggar LLP qualifies as a notary

Thomas Eggar LLP expanded the scope of their notarial services to individuals and businesses with the qualification of partner Sarah Phillips as the only notary in the Newbury area. One of several notaries at the firm, Sarah completed a two year postgraduate diploma at the University of Cambridge having passed exams in Roman law, private international law and notarial practice and her admission as a notary was confirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The graduation process includes the traditional practice of sewing documents together and designing a personal seal with which to approve documents. Sarah’s role as a notary is to verify and certify provable facts so that they will be legally recognised overseas in jurisdictions that do not recognise the legal standing of solicitors. Her work includes attesting powers of attorney, certifying documents such as passports, academic qualifications and personal or corporate papers, and dealing with documents for sponsorship, marriage abroad and overseas adoptions. Speaking about her qualification, Sarah said: “It’s been two years of hard work, and it’s a serious qualification to undertake as the duties and obligations imposed on notaries mean that my involvement can never be a rubber stamping exercise. I am delighted to have qualified and join other colleagues at Thomas Eggar LLP in offering these services to the region. We’re finding there is a particular interest in notarial services to support property purchases abroad, but we offer a range of services for individuals or companies who require a notarial document for use overseas.” 249 Words Ends Enc: Article on notaries and Sarah Phillips
