Chicago’s First Green Hotel Recognized by World’s Largest Travel Site for Environmental Efforts

Hotel Felix Chicago (http://www.hotelfelixchicago.com) is pleased to announce it is selected as part of TripAdvisor® GreenLeaders™ program.  TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, developed the program to help green-minded guests identify eco-friendly hotels.  Located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, Hotel Felix (111 W. Huron St.) is Chicago’s first eco-friendly and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design™ (LEED) Silver certified hotel.

TripAdvisor designed this innovative program in partnership with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program, the U.S. Green Building Council and the United Nations Environment Programme.  To qualify for the program, Hotel Felix had to pass a series of requirements, including having a towel and linen re-using program, using energy-efficient light bulbs, recycling, tracking energy usage and educating staff and guests on green practices.

“TripAdvisor GreenLeaders are leading the hospitality industry in making efforts to improve their environmental footprint,” said Jenny Rushmore, director of responsible travel at TripAdvisor.  “We greatly applaud these accommodations and are pleased to share their eco-friendly practices with our online audience of more than 200 million travelers.”

Travelers can utilize the GreenLeader program to identify accommodations on TripAdvisor that are environmentally-friendly and view a list of green practices for each property in the program.

“As Chicago’s first eco-friendly hotel, we are ecstatic to be selected as a TripAdvisor GreenLeader,” said George Jordan, area general manager of Hotel Felix Chicago.   “We’re thrilled to be part of a program that highlights our green efforts to TripAdvisor travelers.  It is a tremendous honor to earn this title and we are pleased to receive such recognition.”
