Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association Announces Attendees of 2016 Legends for Youth Dinner

Colorado Springs, CO – The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) is pleased to announce attendees for the 17th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City.

The event, which will take place on Tuesday, November 15 at Capitale in New York City, aims to recognize former Major League players for their accomplishments on the diamond coupled with their off-the-field contributions to communities across the nation. 

The event will honor Hall of Famer Phil Niekro as a Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Seattle Mariners third base coach Manny Acta will receive the Brooks Robinson Community Service Award, and the overall Heart and Hustle Award winner will be honored at the event.

Joining the honorees Niekro and Acta in attendance* will be Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and John Smoltz, current New York Yankee Didi Gregorius, as well as former MLB players Brian Boehringer, Darren Bragg, Fred Cambria, Tom Candiotti, Chris Chambliss, Orestes Destrade, John Doherty, Don Fehr, Dave Fleming, John Franco, Chuck Goggin, Doc Gooden, Jim “Mudcat” Grant, Jeffrey Hammonds, Rich Hand, Brian Jordan, Al Leiter, Steve Lyons, Oreste Marrero, Buck Martinez, Scott McGregor Brian McRae, Felix Millan, Mike Myers, Lance Niekro, CJ Nitkowski, Tom Paciorek, Mike Pagliarulo, Dennis Rasmussen, Desi Relaford, Andre Robertson, Ron Robinson, Steve Rogers, Octavio “Cookie” Rojas, Art Shamsky, Craig Skok, John Stearns, Frank Tepedino, José Valdivielso, Bobby Valentine, Fred Valentine, Tim Wakefield, Jon Warden, Herm Winningham, Jamey Wright and Eric Young.

The MLBPAA allocates proceeds from the dinner to the Legends for Youth Baseball Clinic series. The Legends for Youth program is a series of free baseball clinics designed to provide children with positive role models, teach young players baseball fundamentals and promote the game of baseball.
