Why Oil Pressure Switches are Important

Oil Pressure Switches monitor the oil pressure of the engine. These switches open or close an electrical contact when a certain set pressure has been reached.
When the switch is on its minimum pressure, a light on the dashboard will appear. Poor oil pump performance and a worn engine will cause the oil pressure switch to operate and illuminate the dashboard light, so indicating engine condition. A faulty Oil Pressure Switch can hide the condition of the engine until the damage has occurred.
