– wooden construction now taking off in Stockholm
Swedish wood processing company Martinsons has signed a five-year partnership agreement to build tenant-owned homes with Folkhem Trä, a company formed by Folkhem and Rikshem. The agreement could produce orders worth more than one billion Swedish kronor.

Folkhem Trä aims to build 4,000 apartments using wood in Stockholm by the year 2020. The scope of Martinsons' agreement is at least 350 tenant-owned homes, making it the biggest the company has signed for the construction of apartment blocks in wood.

"The order value of 350 tenant-owned homes of the quality and size that Folkhem Trä wants is around 300 million. Of course we want to earn their confidence and deliver even more. We have the capacity to do that," says Lars Martinson, CEO at Martinsons. He continues:

"This agreement also gives an extra boost to the development of our offering. It will result in both investments and the hiring of new employees," says Lars.

For Folkhem Trä, the decision to build using wood is not only about assuming responsibility for a sustainable environment, it is also about smart business in the long term.

"We feel that the best alternative in the future is to invest in a green approach, which means that wood is the only climate-smart alternative," believes Arne Olsson, MD at Folkhem Trä.

Five projects have already been identified at various sites in Stockholm. The planning phase will start next year.

"For us, working in partnership with Martinsons was an obvious choice after the good experiences from the construction of the eight-storey buildings in Sundbyberg near Stockholm two years ago," says Arne Olsson,

The apartment blocks in Sundbyberg were designed and supplied to Folkhem by Martinsons, and have attracted attention all over the world.

"We're now taking the next step. Together we'll show that modern wooden construction can meet high expectations in terms of both volumes and high-quality housing," explains Mikael Lindberg, President of Martinsons Byggsystem.

Rikshem is one of Sweden's biggest private sector housing companies. They have around 20,000 homes worth SEK 21 billion. Folkhem is a privately owned construction company that builds exclusively in wood and operates in the Stockholm area. They are well known for their focus on high quality and craftsmanship.
