Metsä Board Corporation Press release 4 November 2015

Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, is identified as a Nordic leader for the quality of its climate change related information, disclosed to investors and the global marketplace, by CDP, the international not-for-profit organisation that drives sustainable economies. Scoring 100/100, Metsä Board has been awarded a position on the Nordic Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), in the Nordic edition of CDP’s annual global climate change report.

Metsä Board has earned its position on the index by disclosing high quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change programme. The reported data has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. Those organisations graded within the top 10 per cent in the region constitute the CDLI.

“Our strategy to combat climate change concentrates on three areas: increasing use of bioenergy; improving resource and energy efficiency; and lightweighting our paperboards. Inclusion in the CDLI is welcome recognition that we are communicating our efforts successfully and transparently,” says Mika Joukio, CEO of Metsä Board. “We gained a significant score of 100/100, improving on last year. It is also gratifying that it follows our award of a place on this year’s CDP Water A List.”

At the request of 822 investors who represent EUR 86 trillion in assets, thousands of companies submit annual climate disclosures to CDP. Top scores indicate a high level of transparency in the disclosure of climate change-related information, providing investors with a level of comfort to assess corporate accountability and preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.

Paul Dickinson, executive chairman and co-founder of CDP says: “As the world looks beyond the Paris climate change negotiations and prepares for a low carbon future, reliable information about how companies are responding to the transition will be ever more valuable. For this reason we congratulate those businesses that have achieved a position on CDP’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index.”

CDP’s annual global climate change report, along with the climate scores of all companies publicly taking part in CDP’s climate change program this year, is available on CDP’s website.
