Montgomery College Foundation Hosts Portraits of Life Reception and Exhibit Nov. 21 at Pepco Gallery in Washington, DC
Please join Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard at the president's opening reception for Montgomery College's Portraits of Life Exhibit series November 21 at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery located at 702 8th Street, NW in Washington, DC from 6-8 p.m. There will be a tribute to the late Bella Mischkinsky, holocaust survivor, friend, and donor, for her generous gift to the Montgomery College Foundation.
The event, which emphasizes tolerance, understanding, knowledge, and the inherent value of the individual, is the first time all three components of the exhibit--Portraits of Life: Holocaust Survivors of Montgomery County; Portraits of Life: Student Experiences; and Portraits of Life: LGBT Stories of Being--will be viewed together. This event is free and open to the public.
The first exhibit, Portraits of Life: Holocaust Survivors of Montgomery County, features photographs and personal histories of Holocaust survivors who witnessed evil, then turned their backs on hatred to tell their stories. One such person was the late Mischkinsky, whose life will be celebrated as part of the reception by Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne Pollard and Mischkinsky's former College colleagues.
"Bella was an incredible friend of the College," said Carol Rognrud, executive director of the foundation. "Not only did she dedicate countless hours volunteering on behalf of our students, but she also left a substantial gift to the Montgomery College Foundation through her estate. For that and for so much more, Bella's legacy will live on at Montgomery College."
The second exhibit, Portraits of Life: Student Experiences, is a tribute in words and images to student experiences of resilience, transformation, and inspiration. This exhibit highlights and increases awareness of humanitarian issues and the conditions with which people throughout the world are suffering--stories told by Montgomery College students.
Portraits of Life: LGBT Stories of Being, the third installment in the series, features photos and essays portraying lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community members who contribute to the quality of life in Montgomery County through their everyday activities. Through their daily work in business, government, education, human services, the arts, and in nearly every aspect of community life, they make our county a better place for everyone. Representatives from this exhibit will be in attendance.
