Statement from Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard regarding the resignation of Dr. Joshua Starr, Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools.

“I have deeply appreciated the opportunity to work with Dr. Joshua Starr. He is profoundly committed to social justice and the future of the county’s children. Since his arrival in 2011, Dr. Starr and I worked assiduously to foster greater cooperation between MCPS and Montgomery College on a number of initiatives advancing educational opportunities and success for Montgomery County students.

“Chief among our joint efforts is the creation of ACES. Along with colleagues at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), we collaborated to create the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) student support program—a seamless pathway to ensure more students get to, and through, college.

“I know Dr. Starr to be a consummate professional and dedicated leader. On a personal note, I am proud to call Josh my friend.

“All of us at Montgomery College thank Dr. Starr for his commitment to our children and his leadership at MCPS, and extend our best wishes for his future endeavors. We look forward to working with Larry Bowers, the interim superintendent. We remain committed to this spirit of collaboration and innovation with MCPS as we work to enhance educational opportunity for all of Montgomery’s children and students.”
