Oakbrook, IL – (May 15, 2012) – Republic Bank of Chicago sponsored Lace Elementary School’s 2012 “Teacher of the Year” Award which was acknowledged at an all-school assembly May 9.  The award recognizes the teacher (or teachers) whose contributions to the entire Lace School community exemplify qualities of the utmost creativity and dedication.   Lace School is in Darien School District #61 and is located at 7414 South Cass Avenue in Darien, IL.

This year, two teachers, Janel Smith, the 5th grade teacher, and Sally Misiora, the art teacher, were honored with the award, which has been granted to four exceptional Lace School teachers in the past three years.  Each teacher received a $250 check for purchasing classroom supplies, as well as personalized plaques and posters to commemorate the honor.

The honorees were surprised with the awards at an all-school assembly in May.  “Both [Smith and Misiora] are advocates for the success of their students and understand the importance of building positive relationship with both the students and their parents,” said Martin S. Casey, Lace School Principal. “Each candidate possesses incredible talents and attributes that make her the type of teacher all parents desire for their children.”

This is the first year Republic Bank has been the corporate sponsor of this award and recognizes the continued excellence shown by the faculty at Lace School and Darien School District #61.

“We’re proud to be sponsoring the ‘Teacher of the Year’ Award,” said Sally Garcia, AVP/Banking Manager of Republic Bank. “If anything, we want this kind of recognition to motivate not only the award recipients, but other staff members to give their maximum effort each day on behalf of the Lace School students. Republic Bank firmly believes that the children in our communities are our future, and we want to support that very bright future in any way possible.”

“We can’t thank Republic Bank enough,” Casey said. “This sponsorship speaks volumes for the commitment of Republic Bank to support a quality education for the children of the community in which they do business. It is my hope that the modeling of Republic Bank will serve as a beckon for other businesses to recognize individuals and initiatives making a positive difference in the future.”
