Important patent application granted to myFC in Japan

myFC has been notified by the Japanese Patent Office that yet another key patent has been granted to the company. The patent is included in the unique design that is key to myFC’s thin, high-performance PEM fuel cell, and is vital to myFC’s technology with more flexible, cost effective and implementable fuel cells.

The patent covers another major design feature of myFC’s fuel cells and this patent protects an important basic design structure allowing the company to customize their cells to work actively with both “open end” as well as “dead end” solutions. This is pertinent in applications where space is the most important parameter, for example in the case of implementing within mobile phones. This maximizes myFC’s potential to address design solutions independent of the form factor of the product.

“Again, we were granted a patent in the important Japanese market. This patent describes a passive valve built completely within the fuel cell that creates the possibility to slash the BOM (Bill of Material), the production cost and the space, which of course lends itself excellently to the implementation within mobile phones, but also within our JAQ product line in the future. This patent is very important since it means that we have a greater usable net energy from the same volume of hydrogen. This also means that we become more efficient at the energy utilization – allowing us to reach an even larger market,” says Björn Westerholm, CEO of myFC.

The granted patent in Japan will further strengthen the protection of myFC development and expands the existing patent portfolio of 63 approved and pending patent applications, within 8 patent families.
