Meet Lisa Moore: the woman with a plan to introduce National Wildlife to a new generation

National Wildlife Federation has hired Lisa Moore as editorial director and editor-in-chief for its flagship and award-winning magazine, National Wildlife. In this new role, Moore will be in charge of conceptualizing and executing the editorial content for the bimonthly print and online editions of National Wildlife magazine. Moore replaces Mark Wexler, who is retiring at the end of October after 40 years with NWF and the magazine.

“I have the honor of joining and leading a talented team of staff and freelance writers, editors, and designers to create print and online editions of National Wildlife magazine,” said Moore. “Featuring relevant news and compelling stories about wildlife, along with award-winning photography that enthralls and inspires, National Wildlife magazine helps fulfill the mission of National Wildlife Federation: To inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future,” added Moore.

Moore is a publishing professional with more than 30 years in magazine journalism. She began her career atU.S. News & World Report, where she worked her way up to become a staff writer covering consumer news. In 1992, she joined National Geographic magazine where she worked for 14 years, first as a staff writer and then as a senior editor and head of the staff writers’ department. After freelancing for two years, she then joined the staff of the nonprofit, The Wildlife Society, to work as managing editor of their start-up member magazine, The Wildlife Professional, and soon became editor-in-chief and director of publishing.

“With her impressive background, keen understanding of wildlife conservation issues, and her deep appreciation for what drives NWF membership, we are thrilled to have Lisa on board to help us forge new ground while remaining true to the mission of our organization and the role of National Wildlife magazine,” said Maureen Smith, head of marketing and communications for National Wildlife Federation.

National Wildlife magazine is a voice for wildlife, dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat and inspiring the future generation of conservationists. The editors at the magazine and staff of NWF believe that helping wildlife survive the challenges of the 21st century—such as habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and climate change—is best done by working with diverse groups to achieve our common conservation goals, forming resilient and sustainable solutions to problems facing our environment and wildlife, and focusing on both the present and the future of conservation to ensure America's wildlife legacy lives on.
