Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge encourages members to complete challenge hikes and receive free giveaways on the Tahoe Rim Trail

The inaugural Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge continues to build momentum as over 300 hikers, bikers and equestrians join the 2013 Trail Challenge. The program has inspired both novice and seasoned trail users as participants begin tackling the Trail Challenge goals with friends, family and co-workers. Members continue to engage socially by sharing trail stories, pictures and blogging on the interactive, members-only Trail Challenge website. Due to outstanding media and outreach coverage, new Trail Challenge members are being added to the program daily.

Reno-Tahoe based companies are also joining the Trail Challenge through Corporate Sponsorship as a way to engage employee participation, promote healthy life choices and to encourage team camaraderie. The TRTA is pleased to announce International Game Technology (IGT) as the newest Trail Challenge Corporate Sponsor. Heather Brandt, IGT’s Wellness Supervisor shares her excitement for joining, “IGT is thrilled to join the Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge as a healthy way to compete with other local companies. Both employees new to the Tahoe Rim Trail and those who have experienced it before can enjoy fresh air and adventure so close to home. The Challenge will allow our employees to enjoy the activities they love or try something new, like snowshoeing, cross country skiing or hiking. The Challenge is such a great way to expose our employees to the beautiful scenery the Tahoe Rim Trail has to offer and we couldn’t be more excited about it.” Desert Research Institute (DRI) and NV Energy are also proud Corporate Trail Challenge Sponsors who have formed teams; adding new employees to their rosters weekly.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is excited to announce “Where’s McLeod? Giveaway Days” as a fun and interactive opportunity for Trail Challenge participants to reach the six sites this summer. TRTA staff, board of directors and volunteers will be staged at various Trail Challenge vista points to cheer on participants while providing a free giveaway from presenting Trail Challenge sponsors. Leading up to the giveaway days, clues will be posted on the TRTA Facebook page which will guide participants to the disclosed location of trail mascot, McLeod the Marmot. Upon discovery, Trail Challenge participants will receive a free item including gift certificates, whistles, bandanas and more. Trail Challenge members can learn more about the giveaway days by visiting www.trailchallenge.tahoerimtrail.org or by visiting the TRTA Facebook Page. “Where’s McLeod? Trail Challenge Giveaway Days” and 2013 locations include:

  • Saturday, July 20- Majestic Views Challenge Site #3
  • Saturday, August 24-Peaks & Valley Challenge Site #5
  • Saturday, September 21-Alpine Creek Challenge Site #4

Registration for the Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge is still available. TRTA Executive Director Mary Bennington is ecstatic with the outstanding support the organization has received from participants and sponsors, “Seeing all the Trail Challenge participants out on the trail is great! It’s wonderful to see so many new members, getting to know our trail and having so much fun tracking their progress with the Trail Challenge!” The buzz around the program leaves Bennington optimistic that the TRTA will reach the goal of 750 new Trail Challenge members for 2013.

There is still time to join the Trail Challenge. Participants have until December 31, 2013 to complete all six locations. Upon registration, members will receive direct access to a special members-only webpage where participants can share pictures and stories, interact with other members, track their progress and be able to download trail maps and hike descriptions. Members will also receive a Trail Challenge tech T-shirt as well as full membership benefits to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association. Trail Challenge membership is $55 for individuals, $85 for families. Custom corporate packages are also available upon request. Existing TRTA members can enroll for just $20. To begin the challenge and register visit: www.trailchallenge.tahoerimtrail.org.

ABOUT THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL ASSOCIATION (TRTA)

Established in 1981, TRTA is a membership-supported organization that maintains and enhances the Tahoe Rim Trail, a trail like no other™. TRTA exists to practice and inspire stewardship, promote access to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe region and sustain the Tahoe Rim Trail system. This mission is accomplished through two overarching programs: Trail Operations and Trail Use. Both programs offer in-depth trainings and rewarding volunteer opportunities. TRTA recruits, trains and manages approximately 1,000 volunteers who contribute more than 17,000 hours annually to support TRTA’s mission.
