Winter is upon us and that means months of big energy bills – families looking for advice on how to get these bills down should call the free Heating Helpline to get impartial, expert advice on all aspects of energy efficient home heating or visit the Heating Helpline website.

15 October 2013 Colder, damper winter weather will soon be upon us and just as dispiriting is the knowledge that yet another round of energy price rises from the ‘Big 6’ utility companies beckons.  They have been stubbornly high for a long time now with the average dual fuel bill currently a sizeable £1,300 a year – unsurprisingly, according to the Government’s own statistics, 2.4 million homes in England alone are classified as living in fuel poverty.

With energy bills now taking such a big chunk of household expenditure most families are desperate to find ways to keep these costs down.  So, where can they find free, impartial advice on all aspects of home heating and energy saving?  The answer is the Heating Helpline; backed by the long established and highly respected B&ES (Building & Engineering Services Association), it operates 24 hours a day and 363 days a year.

Gratifyingly in these days of automated telephone response, you can actually talk to a real person at the Heating Helpline – just call 0800 810 8303 to speak to a friendly adviser who can provide expert advice on a whole range of subjects such as gas safety, boiler selection and maintenance, renewable energies like solar heating, ways to reduce energy bills and how to avoid rogue traders.

The telephone helpline is backed up by the Heating Helpline website http://www.heatinghelpline.org.uk.  Recently benefiting from a complete  revamp making it much easier to use, the website is packed with useful information including lots of energy saving tips, energy grants that might be available, likely savings from the different renewable energy technologies and how to locate your nearest reputable, registered heating engineer.

Heating Helpline has also just published 10 new information sheets covering subjects like how to avoid rogue traders, essential energy saving tips, understanding renewable energy, what energy grants are available and the Green Deal.  All 10 leaflets are available to download from the website at http://www.heatinghelpline.org.uk or printed copies can be requested by calling the Helpline (0800 810 8303).

Notes to editors

Since its formation in 1904, B&ES, the Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly the HVCA) has represented the interests of companies engaged in a wide range of building and engineering services including domestic heating and renewable technologies.

B&ES members are subject to regular, third-party inspection and assessment of their technical competence and commercial capability, carried out by an independent certification body at least every three years.

B&ES members who undertake gas installations are registered with Gas Safe – the gas safety watchdog body – and are also members of TrustMark, the Government-endorsed scheme designed to direct customers towards reliable tradespeople.

B&ES operates the Heating Helpline (http://www.heatinghelpline.org.uk) to provide consumers with free, impartial advice on every aspect of home heating.
