Nordic Iron Ore (NIO), the mineral exploration and development company with significant European Iron Ore assets is pleased to announce its appointment of Golder to undertake the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for their flagship low-cost and fully permitted Blötberget Project in Central Sweden.

Paul Marsden, Managing Director of NIO said “This is a defining period for Nordic Iron Ore as we move from exploration into development of a premium-quality deposit at an established brownfield site. Blötberget represents a hugely exciting prospect, located in a historic mining region of Sweden and close to existing infrastructure, accessing both the European and Global markets. Golder have been selected due to their prestigious global mining reputation and proven track record in delivering large-scale international feasibility studies in the Nordic region and worldwide. Golder’s front-end technical capabilities coupled with our experienced management team represent the ideal collaboration to successfully deliver a project of such strategic importance to the company and region. I am confident that following the DFS we can, subject to financing, quickly transition into Front End Engineering Design (FEED), construction and development of adjacent resources in order to extend the life time of the project, and I am sure the level of interest in the project will only rise as we reach our goal.”

Prior studies and an extensive exploration programme have demonstrated the potential to develop a decline access, approx 3Mtpa underground operation with minimal initial re-start capital and low operating costs. Blötberget is the most advanced in a portfolio of Iron Ore projects the company has in the pipeline.

Mobilisation of Golder is due to commence on 1 June 2018 with the DFS scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2019.
