Engebø project update: Substantial progress achieved in process development

Report this content

Significant progress has been made in developing a reliable process solution for the Engebø rutile and garnet deposit. The test work campaign has proven the viability of producing market grade rutile and garnet.

Commercial rutile and garnet products demonstrated

The test work program has achieved a rutile product of 95% TiO2 at recoveries exceeding 50%. Work is ongoing to improve the recovery whilst maintaining product quality.

Garnet production is divided in coarse and fine product streams. Fine garnet products have been produced to market specifications. Focus is currently on developing the coarse garnet product flowsheet.

A broad process team involving experts at Hatch, Mintek and IHC Robbins has over the last months worked intensively together with Nordic Mining’s project team to find an optimal process scheme for Engebø. The resulting process solution is based on industry standard process technology, combining methods such as magnetic, gravimetric and electrostatic separation.

A systematic comminution test program has been completed, and the chosen crushing and grinding set up demonstrates superior performance in terms of mineral liberation and operational parameters.

Further optimisation test work

Bulk samples are currently being processed using the optimised flowsheet to validate all the work done in the test work campaign.
