In 2015, the Ministry of Climate and the Environment granted the environmental permit related to the Engebø rutile and garnet project. In 2016, the permit was reconfirmed by the King in Council.

Seven members of the parliament have submitted a proposal for new considerations regarding the Engebø project. The proposal has been considered in the parliament’s committee for energy and environmental matters. The recommendation to the parliament, dated 26 April 2018, from a majority of the committee is to reject the proposal. The majority members represent the political parties represented in the government and in addition representatives from the major opposition parties.

CEO Ivar S. Fossum comments: “The zoning plan and the environmental permit for the Engebø project are final without further possibility for appeal. Nordic Mining holds all rights and permits necessary for its current operations related to the project.”
