North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) today announced that Sonia Szlyk, MD, Director of Regional Anesthesia for NAPA’s Mid-Atlantic Division, will be a featured speaker at the 2016 Advanced Institute for Anesthesia Practice Management (AIAPM). In addition, Vincent Vilasi, MD, MBA, CEO of NAPA’s Mid-Atlantic division, will be serving as the event’s Conference Director. AIAPM will take place June 3-5, 2016 at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. NAPA will also be supporting the event as an exhibitor.

Dr. Szlyk is scheduled to speak on Saturday, June 4 at 1 pm. Her presentation entitled, “Delighting Surgeons and Patients: Enhancing the Service Experience and Increasing Case Volume through Advances in Regional Anesthesia” will focus on how innovative regional anesthesia techniques yield strategic advantages for hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. Dr. Szlyk will also give the audience a glimpse into how the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Initiative is reshaping care delivery and tying back to the critical role anesthesia providers play in the development and implementation of a Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) program.

“As anesthesia providers, we have a tremendous ability to design and deploy Perioperative Surgical Home and Early Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs that deliver the highest-quality collaborative care and service experience for our patients,” said Dr. Szlyk. “Regional anesthesia and its related cost savings continue to play a vital role in successful bundled payment initiatives. Through advanced techniques such as ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and catheters, we are able to facilitate total joint replacements using ERAS protocols to reduce pain, increase ambulation and decrease length of stay driving down costs and leading to overall higher patient and surgeon satisfaction.”

Sonia Szlyk, MD, has served as a clinical instructor in regional anesthesia at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. Dr. Szlyk is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and an active member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The 2016 Advanced Institute for Anesthesia Practice Management is the only anesthesia conference in the marketplace that focuses on practice management issues with the goal of enlightening attendees on broader group strategy issues, including numerous talks on billing, coding and compliance.
