Swinging Sixties Weekend, 13 & 14 June 2015

Miniskirts for the ladies, and sophisticated silk cravats for the gents will be the fashion staples on 13 & 14 June 2015 for a poptastic weekend of live music along the world’s most popular heritage railway, as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway turns back the clock half a century to the swinging 60s.

Forget the Cavern Club, the most happening sounds in the country will be ringing out across the North York Moors from performance venues at the railway’s stations at Levisham and Goathland, whilst back at Pickering, a nostalgic pop-up museum of 60s memorabilia will be on display in the station’s Education Centre on Platform 2.

“We’ve got some great acts lined up throughout the weekend, including The New Amen Corner who have been performing for five decades since their hit ‘Bend me, shape me’ from 1968 and tribute act Little Miss Sixties, who will be belting out songs from Lulu, Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw at Levisham station,” comments marketing manager, Danielle Ramsey.  “Over at Goathland, we’re delighted to welcome back Jive Express and Tex Leon & Friends, who will be playing right into the evening, as well as our very own band made out of railway volunteers, the Jailhouse Jets.”

Both Levisham and Goathland stations will also host real ale bars and a collection of vehicles from the 1960s to add an extra authentic touch to the weekend’s musical fun.

The music at Levisham will take place between 12 noon and 4.30pm, with visitors required to hold a valid travel ticket for the day or a platform pass (£5 per person).  The music at Goathland will continue into the late evening, although the last train will depart for Pickering at 7.40pm on Saturday evening.

“As with all of our events, passengers are more than welcome to get into the spirit of the weekend by dressing up in their finest 60s gear, so hopefully, we’ll have plenty of Mary Quant mini dresses and Beatles-style haircuts on display throughout the weekend,” adds Danielle.

Normal ticket prices apply for the weekend, and can be purchased from any of the stations along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
