With the North Yorkshire Moors Railway planning a week of teddy bear-themed activities over the February half term break (15-23 February 2014), organisers are appealing for anyone with unwanted bears to take them along to become part of Goathland station’s teddy tribute!

Throughout the week, Goathland station will be festooned with cuddly toys of all descriptions as the UK’s most teddy-friendly railway celebrates everyone’s favourite cuddly toy.  To make the event as cuddly as possible, it is now appealing for anyone who is having a New Year clear out to donate their excess teddies to join the party.

“We would love to have the platform absolutely lined with bears to wave to the train passengers as they pull into the station, so this really is a case of ‘the more, the merrier’,” comments marketing manager, Danielle Ramsey.  “Anyone who is trying to find a new home for old cuddly toys to make way for Christmas gifts can drop them in Customer Services at Pickering station, and we’ll give them a great home, with plenty of friends to play with.”

North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Teddy Bear Week runs from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 February between Pickering and Goathland.  Children can collect a Teddy Bear Trail sheet when they board the train at Pickering, with clues available along the line to complete the trail.  Any child bringing along their teddy bear will ride for free (with a full-paying adult).

The February half term opening is a great opportunity to enjoy the winter scenery on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, from the warmth of a railway carriage!  The railway remains closed for most of the winter months for essential maintenance works in preparation for weekend journeys from 15 March, and daily re-opening of trains between Pickering and Whitby from 5thApril 2014.

Tickets during Teddy Bear Week cost £16.00 for adults, £14.00 for seniors and £8.00 for children, but any child bringing along a teddy bear on the day travels free.  Tickets are valid for unlimited travel up and down the line between Pickering and Goathland.  Dogs are also welcome, with canine tickets priced at £2.50.

The Teddy Bear Week is the first event in a packed programme of activities planned for the world’s most popular heritage railway throughout 2014.  Other events in the coming months include steam galas, family story trains and the ever popular Railway in Wartime weekend in October.
