Laura Mullaney and Juliana Ramirez of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate List Iconic Coral Gables Home for $2.175 Million

MIAMI (March 25, 2014)— Laura Mullaney and Juliana Ramirez of the Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate’s Coral Gables office have listed 6705 San Vincente Street for $2.175 million. Located in the historic Dutch South African Village neighborhood of south Coral Gables, this home was designed in the 1920s by architect Marion Syms Wyeth and is the only one of his designs located on San Vincente Street.

“A listing in the historical villages of Coral Gables is rare, especially one in the Dutch South African Village designed by Marion Syms Wyeth. This home has not been on the market in 75 years which suggests that not only does it have a fascinating, historical pedigree but it must be quite livable and comfortable having had but one owner content to stay there for all these years,” said Laura Mullaney, a Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate sales associate who specializes in historical homes.   “This 1920s Cape Dutch-style home is one of the five village homes designed by Wyeth. This exceptional gem provides a look back to a time when American architecture focused on elegance, glamour and intelligent floor planning.”

In the 1920s, George Merrick, the founder of Coral Gables, had a vision to build fourteen villages from difference international regions, aimed at attracting home buyers from up North and offering them some variety in architecture. The goal of the Village Project was to showcase the architectural styles of Africa, China, France, Italy and Mexico. The Dutch South African Village is a unique assemblage of houses patterned on the farmhouses of Dutch colonists who settled in South Africa in the 17th century. The hurricane of 1926 and the depression ended the further development of The Village Project.

“The timeless features of this home have been perfectly preserved by the owners for almost a century,” said Juliana Ramirez. “Very few houses in America are this unique, like a work of art and this is one of them.”

The 3,304 square-foot, Cape Dutch-style home has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one half bath. The two-story main house features a vaulted center hall with winding stairwell, formal dining room, original windows, large family room, kitchen and a large sun room on the back side of the home. Unique features of the home include open beam ceilings, generous and spaciously sized rooms, and a 50-foot-long screened-in veranda overlooking the pool and landscaped courtyard.  There is a separate, two-story guest house in the rear of the property with two bedrooms and one full bathroom.  The home is decorated with antique furniture and works of art, which are for sale, separate from the home.
