London, UK, 10 January 2012 – Nuclear Power Europe, part of Europe’s largest power industry networking event POWER-GEN Europe, has announced ‘Serving the Nuclear sector’ as the central theme for the 2012 exhibition and conference taking place 12-14 June at the KölnMesse, Cologne. The event will once again be co-located with POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe.

Now in its third year, a key element of the 2012 nuclear programme will be to bridge the gap between the past, present and future of nuclear energy in Europe. The effects Fukashima has had on the nuclear power market and the lessons that can be learned will be at the forefront of the agenda. The existing fleet of nuclear power stations will also be open for debate: maintenance, upgrading and life extension opportunities across Europe, as well as decommissioning, waste and other legacy issues will be discussed in detail.

“The nuclear power industry is undergoing a fundamental change and our insightful and thought provoking conference will offer industry’s experts the chance to appreciate the big picture and truly engage with the direction the industry is heading,” said Nigel Blackaby, conference director at Nuclear Power Europe 2012. “We can’t wait to build on the success of our 2011 exhibition, which attracted 15,000 attendees and a conference featuring 70 sessions and 250 speakers presenting over the course of the three days.”

Nuclear Power Europe will provide an unequalled programme of strategic, technical, keynote and plenary sessions, along with over 600 exhibitors showcasing their products and services. A full conference programme will include an examination of the results and implications of the European stress tests on nuclear plants, the opportunities for integration and the issue of decommissioning.
