Nynas will be present as an exhibitor and will also be giving a technical presentation at the leading meeting place for African power and water utility professionals.

This year’s African Utility Week – the 17th such event – will be held in Cape Town on 16-18 May. It is a global meeting place that offers both a broad conference programme and a trade exhibition. The electricity shortage is a major problem in many African countries, and major efforts are being made to expand the grid. The opportunities that this opens up form an important starting point for the various items to be covered in the programme during African Utility Week, including generation, transmission & distribution, investment and future trends.

As well as 250 exhibitors, there will be around 1,200 participants attending the conference, creating an excellent opportunity to keep up with the latest developments and to build professional networks. Nynas will have a team in the exhibition hall – booth number B5, Block E, 4th Floor – in order to meet current and potential customers and other stakeholders. The team includes Dr Bruce Pahlavanpour, Senior Technical Advisor.

“Together with my Nynas colleagues, the plan is to meet existing customers, find out about their problems and needs, and support them as much as we can. As chairman of IEC, TC10 this event also helps me to find out more about market requirements and the need to develop new standards, specifications and maintenance guides related to insulating liquid,” he says.

Carl Wolmarans, Development Engineer, will also be giving a technical presentation under the heading of “Insulating Oils – key aspects that lead to reliability”.

“I’ll be covering the major characteristics of a high performing insulating fluid – including a closer look at electrical properties,” he explains. “Performance and reliability are key aspects for power transformers, not least in more challenging environments where there may be very hot ambient temperatures and frequent thunderstorms.”

“The Utility Week is the largest and most important event in Africa. A majority of the region’s utilities and many OEMs and service providers will attend, as well as some from other continents. It’s a unique opportunity to keep up with future plans and new developments in the electrical industry and to find out more about customers’ needs and market requirements,” concludes Dr Pahlavanpour.
