Dr Valentina Serra-Holm from Nynas will be one of the speakers when the industry meets up to discuss market trends during the ICIS 21th World Base Oils & Lubricants Conference.

As Marketing and Technology Director at the specialist oil company Nynas, Dr Valentina Serra-Holm heads a group whose competence covers everything from marketing to research and technical development. In addition to technical and commercial competence in base oils, she has a breadth of knowledge of the global oil and lubricants industry.

These are experiences that will be put to good use at this year’s ICIS World Base Oils & Lubricants Conference, when she makes a presentation on the subject of “Crude oil trends and impact on base oils”. This is a broad topic with many different aspects, not least how the price volatility affects base oil refiners.

“I’ll also be mentioning the impact on capital expenditures (CAPEX) and decisions on new projects, as well as if low crude oil prices undermine the development of alternative and renewable technologies, before concluding with an update on naphthenic crudes,” says Dr Serra-Holm.

Dr Serra-Holm emphasises the importance of ICIS for the industry. She believes that it offers the best global networking and market intelligence available, and that the discussions held during the conference highlight the important issues affecting the future direction of the industry in Europe and globally.

“One strength in this context is that participants from the entire value chain take part, not only oil producers and marketers, but also OEMs, including all the major suppliers to the industry,” she explains.

The ICIS World Base Oils & Lubricants Conference is without doubt one of the most important international meeting places for the industry, attracting over 600 participants from more than fifty countries.

The focus during this year’s conference will be on market trends and how the industry landscape is in a process of transition. There will also be two seminars on offer – one with a focus on Iran, while the other, led by Professor Thomas Norrby from Nynas, concentrates on the markets in Central and Eastern Europe, including Russia and the former Soviet republics (OSS).
