Opera by You seminar explores crowdsourcing in culture production

Public seminar "Crowdsourcing in Culture Production, Case by Opera by You" deals with Finnish Savonlinna Opera Festival’s crowdsourcing opera production. Speaking at the seminar are Rovio’s Marketing Director Peter Vesterbacka and Pia Erkinheimo, Nokia’s Head of Crowdsourcing, among others.

Free Will opera – produced by the Opera by You online community – will premiere on the 21st of July 2012 in Savonlinna, Finland. Crowdsourcing in Culture Production seminar takes place on the same day. The purpose of the seminar is to explore crowdsourcing as a resource for business and the Opera by You project. The participants of the seminar include some well-known Finnish speakers.

Seminar will be opened by General Manager of the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Jan Hultin, who will step aside after this season. Pauli Aalto-Setälä, CEO of Aller Media Finland, will continue by presenting how crowdsourcing is utilized in Finnish enterprises. Other speakers are Opera By You’s operatives. Taking part are also active members of the online community, Nancy Somerville from USA and Italian Enrico de Zottis. Participating in the panel discussion are Peter Vesterbacka from Rovio, Pia Erkinheimo, the Head of Crowdsourcing at Nokia, Timo Vuorensola from Blind Spot Pictures and Päivi Salmi, the Project Manager of Opera by You.

The seminar is open both to the public and to media. There is no participation fee but enrolling is required. The panel discussion, as well as the speeches, will be held in English. English is also the language of the opera Free Will.

Opera By You project – current information

Italian Graziano Gallo’s Free Will has been chosen as the theme of the opera. The three geniuses are Mozart, Oscar Wilde and Joan of Arc. The fourth lead is Lucifer. Opera will take place in year 2012. Libretto has been written and pianoscore is ready. Also stage sets design and costume design have been finalized. Online community is currently working on stage direction and marketing activities. Community’s work culminates in end of June, when anyone can participate in stage directing online by commenting straight to Free Will’s director Jere Erkkilä, located on set in Savonlinna.
