TOSIBOX® is a direct VPN tunnel between physical devices, and only trusted devices can access the network. The data cannot be accessed with passwords alone, but a physical key is always required. Even the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority FICORA recently recommended two-factor authentication for much stronger protection than mere passwords.
Secure remote access is essential in building automation as cyber-attacks can cause serious damage by for instance cutting heating from buildings. This can and has been caused by hacking and denial of service attacks to automation devices, other internet connected devices and systems. The hijacked devices have been used for instance in conducting distributed denial of service attacks. Just in Finland, there are still more than 2,000 building automation systems connected to the Internet in an unsecure fashion, according to FICORA.
