In readiness for World Skills Leipzig 2013, the Team UK Auto Tech competitor, Alex Knight spent a day with Pro-Align, training on the Hunter Elite TD imaging aligner, in preparation for the wheel alignment skill section at the event.

Having spent the day with Pro-Align’s trainer Barry Sumner, Alex was able to familiarise himself with the Hunter imaging aligner with QuickGrip targets, which will be the featured alignment equipment at World Skills Leipzig, and extend and advance his alignment knowledge.

Alex commented, “My previous wheel alignment experience has been rather limited, so today was invaluable. The Hunter is so quick, easy to use, and far better than anything else I have used in the past”.

Alex’s journey to becoming an automotive technician started from an early age with lawn mower engines and progressed to his first off-road buggy at the age of 14. From qualification at school, to a Honda Apprenticeship, he always had a competitive edge. He confirmed the competition process has been tough at times but loves the challenge of beating others. Alex found that the hardest thing to learn was vehicle electrics, but with the extensive training he has received over the years, this has become much easier.

John Dawson, Worlds Skills Training Manager confirmed Alex had an outstanding skill level even at the age of 19 and missed out by the narrowest of margins to compete in London 2011. Since then he has seen Alex’s skill and knowledge accelerate, including extending his brand specific training at World Skills level.

At the competition Alex will face a host of other international competitors but with the training he had at Pro-Align, when it comes to the alignment section on Hunters VW approved Elite TD VAS6292, he will certainly be prepared to take on the world.

Pro-Align’s commitment to raising alignment standards and support training of future alignment technicians continues as it will once again return as an Official Sponsor of The Skills Show 2013 at the NEC in November, where competitors will use the company’s latest Hunter Elite TD imaging alignment system.

“Equipping technicians of the future with the correct knowledge about alignment is a key area for us all at Pro-Align,” comments Paul Beaurain, managing director, Pro-Align. “It’s essential that automotive students have the opportunity to use equipment that is shaping the future of the service and repair industry so we’re delighted to get involved. We wish Alex all the very best success in Leipzig.”
