Alabama Consumers Could Soon View Insurance Documents Online
MONTGOMERY, Alabama – The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) commends the Alabama Senate for unanimous passage of SB 292 which will allow consumers to view their policy documents and information online instead of receiving them through the mail if they choose.
“Alabama is taking the right steps in allowing consumers to access their insurance information via e-mail or online,” said PCI’s regional manager Logan McFaddin. “If passed, consumers will have the option to review or renew their insurance policies, receive their insurance bills, or other notices via email or online as opposed to regular mail delivery.”
“This will be up to the consumers to decide, they can choose to go paperless or not, but this flexibility allows insurers to meets the increased demand by consumers who want to do business electronically,” said McFaddin.
“We’ve been out front on this issue in several states, and look forward to Alabama allowing policyholders to conduct business electronically."
The bill will now head to the House.
If passed by the House and signed by Governor Bentley Alabama would be the 30th state to allow insurers to conduct policyholder communications digitally.

PCI members write more than $183 billion in annual premium, 35 percent of the nation's property casualty insurance. Member companies write 42 percent of the U.S. automobile insurance market, 27 percent of the homeowners market, 32 percent of the commercial property and liability market and 34 percent of the private workers compensation market.
