Insurers Support No-Texting-While-Driving Ban in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - Joe Woods, vice president, state government relations for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), today issued the following statement in support of HB 62, which would prohibit the use of hand-held electronic communication devices for talking, texting, or any other internet use while driving.

“PCI is a proud supporter of the Texas Distracted Driving Coalition and supports any legislation that helps improve safety and reduce costs. We support HB 62 and believe that it will save lives on Texas roads, and commend the House Transportation Committee for passing this bill 13-0.

“We believe simple changes in driver behavior can make a big difference in improving road safety, saving lives and controlling insurance costs for consumers. We support any legislation that strengthens distracted driving laws in the state of Texas and potentially helps save lives.”

The bill will now move to the House floor.
