Saab’s support - decisive in action against pirates
Defence and security company Saab´s support contract with theSwedishCoastGuard means that the company has overall responsibility for technical maintenance and support of the customer's aircraft. This is also the case during missions, so in recent months Saab has made support technicians available in theSeychellesas part of Operation Atalanta.
The Swedish Coast Guard is participating in Operation Atalanta, a joint civil-military EU collaboration whose aim is to deter pirate attacks against the UN World Food Programme's shipments of food aid in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean offSomalia's east coast. The Swedish Coast Guard is participating in the civil part of the operation with a naval surveillance aircraft. The mission is to identify, document and report any suspected pirate activity.
This is the second time that Saab has been involved, offering support, maintenance and spare parts to enable the Swedish Coast Guard to perform their mission.
Saab has built up a line-station in theSeychelleswhere it has been present between October 2012 and February 2013.
Commondore Ronnie Willman, Head of the Swedish Coast Guard's operations, is pleased with Saab's contribution during Operation Atalanta.
“As usual, we are very pleased with the work being done and those working at the line-station know just what is expected of us and what we want. Saab is supporting us brilliantly,” says Ronnie Willman.
