Scandic opens yet another hotel in Finland

Scandic and the VR Pension Fund have signed a contract to build a new hotel in the centre of Tampere. Scandic Tampere Station will open in 2012.
The new eight-storey hotel will get a prime location, close to the railway station. It will have 207 rooms, including 12 rooms for disabled guests and five rooms with a sauna. At street level there will be a restaurant, lobby bar and three meeting rooms. The building will also have a garage with 51 parking spaces, and of course everything you can expect from a Scandic hotel such as a lobby shop, a gym and a leading sustainability program.

“Scandic is growing rapidly in Finland – we’re adding five new hotels in 2010 alone. It’s an important market, making this an exciting development for Scandic in Finland,” says Scandic’s President and CEO Frank Fiskers.

The gross floor area of the hotel is around 12,500 m2 and construction company Lemminkäinen Oy will be handling the build. Construction work is due to start in August 2010 and is expected to take around 18 months.

“Tampere is Finland’s second largest city, with a growing hotel market. Our third hotel here will have a very central location and expand our room capacity in Tampere to around 700, or a third of the city’s entire offering,” explains Aarne Hallama, Country Vice President Finland. “The new Scandic Tampere Station hotel will be a modern and inspiring addition to our chain and to the range of hotels in Tampere.”
