SCC has won Best Staff and Community Scheme at the City Council’s Sustainability & Recycling Awards 2014.

Commended for excellent employee engagement and the support of regional charities, the privately-owned business runs a number of schemes to help make Birmingham greener.

SCC, Europe’s largest independent technology solutions provider, has been headquartered in Birmingham since its 1975 inception.

SCC employees have helped raise more than £14,000 for children’s charity Action for Children through participation in Birmingham’s annual Byte Night event and the recent ‘Challenge Africa’ project.

In February 2014, five employees were selected to visit Shikadabu Primary in Kenya to help in the building of a fence, securing the site, protecting the pupils and reducing the risk of theft.

As well as taking part in organised charity events, SCC actively encourages individual employees to fundraise for causes close to them, with the entitlement of a paid Volunteer Day to be taken any time.

The judges of Birmingham City Council’s Sustainability & Recycling Awards were particularly impressed by the range of employee engagement schemes available to SCC employees, which also includes Cycle-to-work, partnering with public transport providers to offer discount and car sharing incentives.

For the third consecutive year running, SCC is sponsoring the Internet safety and cyber bullying project as part of the Community Education Awards in association with The Police Community Clubs of Great Britain, rewarding school projects based on Internet Safety.

This year, they have funded over 100 local Birmingham schools to have Internet Safety resources, including storybooks and information packs.

SCC Chief Executive James Rigby said: “As a privately-owned family business, SCC is passionate about driving Social Responsibility.

“We strive to be the UK’s most socially responsible technology firm, with the objective of enabling our people to positively contribute in a way that is personal, valuable and meaningful to them and the business.”
