Beowulf (AIM: BEM; Aktietorget: BEO), the mineral exploration and development company, focused on the Kallak magnetite iron ore project and the Åtvidaberg polymetallic exploration licence in Sweden, and its graphite portfolio in Finland, is pleased to announce the appointment of Afnan Khabiri to the position of Stakeholder Communications Officer.

Afnan will be based in Jokkmokk and will lead the Company’s communication efforts in the community.  As the Kallak project progresses, Afnan will manage the distribution of information, as we initiate a Scoping Study, and as we share our plans and ideas on the development of a modern and sustainable mining operation, with our stakeholders.  Afnan will be the local contact for the community, and will assist in the formation of the local partnerships that we believe are necessary to ensuring that Kallak is a success, and that all members of the community benefit.

Afnan is 24 years old, and grew up in Södertälje, south of Stockholm. He has lived in Jokkmokk for the last four years, during which time he has used his passion for football to bring together refugees, who have made their home in Jokkmokk, and the local community.  Afnan started this work with the objective to improve the integration process for refugees into Swedish society.  The football team that Afnan started, and coaches, has fifty per cent refugees and fifty per cent local youths, and the club has expanded from two to ten teams, with men, boys and girls participating, across age categories. Afnan is a Member of the Board of the football club, Jokkmokks SK.

Afnan’s achievements through football have deepened friendships amongst teammates, their understanding of each other, and helped to encourage social cohesion in Jokkmokk.

On 24 April 2017, Afnan received a scholarship (The Compass Rose) from His Majesty, The King of Sweden, for his leadership achievements.  The scholarship is awarded to young leaders, who are characterised by their courage, consideration for others, and using the power of action to make positive change.

In employing Afnan, the Company has agreed to support his activities with Jokkmokks SK, and the refugee centre where he is a mentor and tutor.

Kurt Budge, CEO, commented:

I am very pleased to welcome Afnan to the Company.

“In Afnan Khabiri and Morgan Snell, we have two young employees who live in Jokkmokk, care deeply about the town and its people, and who are working for a brighter future for their community.

“Afnan has lived in Jokkmokk for four years’, and during that time he has made a significant impact on the town’s football club, and worked to support the town’s refugee population.

“Afnan understands the challenges facing Jokkmokk, and sees the Kallak project as a real opportunity for all.  We are glad to have him as part of the team.”

Afnan Khabiri commented:

''I am happy and grateful to have been given this opportunity to join Beowulf Mining and to be part of the very interesting Kallak project. I am looking forward to the possible long-term positive benefits this project could have for the municipality of Jokkmokk.''

''Jag är glad och tacksam att ha fått möjligheten att jobba för Beowulf Mining och vara en del av det intressanta projektet i Kallak. Jag ser fram emot de eventuella fördelarna det här projektet skulle kunna ha för Jokkmokks Kommun långsiktigt.”
