Blueflow Technologies is proud to be selected and to work with Viking Line, the leading shipping line in the Baltic Sea. The experienced and competent crew of Viking Line completed the ship's installation of Blueflow Fuel® largely by themselves.

With the EU calling for a global approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping has resulted in the requirement for shipping lines to take action. The first step will be from the 1st January 2018 when all large shipping vessels using EU ports will be required to report their annual emissions (verified). For Viking Line the Blueflow Fuel® is a natural platform for their future MRV work as our product already today partially is compliant towards many of the EU’s MRV legislation.

Ulf Hagström, SVP Marine Operations, Viking Line says:

“Blueflow is being used by Viking Line to detect deviations or under-optimized routines in real time and then suggesting alternatives (optimized from Blueflows historical data). We see the benefit that the officers onboard the ships immediately can see the difference in energy consumptions trying out different operating methods.

Furthermore, Blueflow Fuel reporting system gives us full control of the ship´s fuel and energy consumption. It will also minimize the effort needed to comply with the upcoming MRV-legislation.”

Viking Line
is the market-leading brand in passenger traffic on the northern Baltic Sea and it offers passenger services, recreation and cargo carrier services on its vessels Gabriella, Mariella, Amorella, Rosella, Viking Cinderella, Viking XPRS and on the new flagship Viking Grace.

The MRV regulation
The European Commission (EC) is bringing emissions from shipping into its 2009 climate and energy package. MRV is designed to progressively integrate maritime emissions into the EU’s policy for reducing domestic greenhouse gas emissions (EU regulation 2015/757). MRV requires ship owners and operators to annually monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for vessels equal to or larger than 5,000 GT and which call at any EU port. The results will be published on a regular basis. Entered into force on 1 July 2015, the regulation will become fully effective on 1 January 2018.
