Europolitan develops mobile IP telephony in partnership with Nokia

Europolitan develops mobile IP telephony in partnership with Nokia Europolitan and Nokia are jointly developing a mobile IP telephony service - GSM Intranet Office. The service will enable corporate customers to communicate by mobile and fixed telephones, as well as by computer via the company's local area network, LAN. With GSM Intranet Office, companies can replace their telephone switchboards and get access to a wealth of advanced services via the company's local area network. Mobile telephones, fixed telephones and computers are all connected via the local computer network. GSM Intranet Office will create greater mobility in the office. Staff can be reached on one and the same number, regardless of whether they are at the office or out and about. They also get access to considerably more advanced services than those currently offered by fixed or mobile telephony. GSM Intranet Office will be cost-efficient - both for calls and systems investments. "We see the convergence of GSM and the Internet as being crucial to developing attractive services," says Mikael Kluge, Marketing Director at Europolitan. GSM Intranet Office simplifies the application and makes it possible to send all types of messages - voice, data, fax, SMS and e-mail - via the company's local area network. "In the first half of 1999, we will test and evaluate the service in collaboration with one of our major customers," he says. If all goes well, the service will be launched some time in the latter part of 1999. GSM Intranet Office involves base stations being integrated with the company's computer network. Calls between staff at the office are connected via the internal computer network. Calls made from outside the office are connected to Europolitan's GSM network. GSM Intranet Office contains a wide range of services such as a telephone directory, messaging service, conference calls, data transfer, forwarding and re-routing. GSM Intranet Office is a platform significant possibilities for future development of communication by voice, data, fax and e-mail. Europolitan is a Swedish GSM operator which prioritises service and quality. The company's head office is in Karlskrona and it leads development in technologically advanced services for GSM900/1800. The Europolitan Group, which includes the sister company Europolitan Stores AB and the stock marketlisted Europolitan Holdings AB, employs around 750 people.
