Calle Lindh ends his alpine career

25-year-old Calle Lindh chooses to end his career, a career that has had its ups and downs with many fine results and several injuries.

Calle began competing in the Swedish National Team as 19 years old. He has had a career lined by injuries, with double broken leg and a torn cruciate ligament. This year, 2014/2015, was the first full season for Calle since 2009.

This season was also the breakthrough in the Alpine World Cup. At the premier in Sölden he ended up on 13th place but the big break came at home soil in Åre in December, when he climbed from 29th place in the first run to a 6th place, his careers best.

But now it’s out of racing for Calle, the motivation is no longer there and without motivation it is difficult to put 100 % in training and competition. – I do not think it’s fun anymore, with this lifestyle that comes with being and alpine athlete at a top level. Skiing will clearly still be in my life, but not as it has been. The successes that I had was fun, but it didn't outweigh the sacrifices that I feelt I had to do, says Calle.

– I think this is really sad; I have followed the Calle since he was a junior and I really like him as a person. We are missing out one of the few alpine skiers who I think can win the World Cup in both slalom and giant slalom, says men’s coach Thomas Sjödin.

– We at the Swedish Ski Association wishes Calle good luck in the future. And if he would regret his decision the door is open for come back at any time, says sports director Anders Sundqvist.
