    SEB’s results for the first quarter 2024

    SEB’s operating profit for the first quarter 2024 amounted to SEK 12.3bn, with a return on equity of 17.2 per cent, a CET1 capital ratio of 18.9 per cent, and a capital management buffer of 420 basis points.  “We report a solid result, with robust asset quality and low net expected credit losses.     According to the decision at the Annual General Meeting on 19 March 2024, SEB has cancelled 40,147,190 Class A shares held for capital management purposes. The share capital of SEK 21,942m is unchanged. This is because a decision was made, in conjunction with the decision to reduce the share capital by cancelling repurchased shares, to make a bonus issue, without issuing any new shares, by a transfer from non-restricted shareholders equity to share capital.     SEB has completed its latest share buyback program under which SEK 1.75 billion of Class A shares has been repurchased. The Board has resolved to utilise the authorisation granted by the 19 March 2024 Annual General Meeting to initiate a new SEK 2 billion buyback program of Class A shares. On 24 January 2024, SEB announced a SEK 1.75 billion share buyback program for capital management purposes. The repurchases of shares began on 26 January 2024 and ended on 18 March 2024.     Investment Outlook: Investors look past soft landing

    Our main thesis for 2024 is that positive drivers, a gradual decline in interest rates and a bottoming out of the economy will lay the groundwork for a broader stock market upturn, driven by former stragglers. But the economic soft-landing scenario is already largely discounted in the market, which limits its potential.     SEB’s China Financial Index, an indicator of business sentiment among northern European companies’ subsidiaries in China, dropped to 53.6 in November last year, from 57.8 in the previous survey conducted in May.     SEB has completed its latest share buyback program under which SEK 1.25 billion of Class A shares has been repurchased.  On 24 October 2023, SEB announced a SEK 1.25 billion share buyback program for capital management purposes. The repurchases of shares began on 26 October 2023 and ended on 29 December 2023.
