Swedish hospital orders digital imaging system from Sectra

Swedish hospital orders digital imaging system from Sectra Sectra, the Swedish IT and medical company, has signed a contract with the Southern Älvsborg Hospital in Sweden to digitize its radiology departments. The order comprises Sectra's picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and is worth about SEK 13 million. Radiology operations in Southern Älvsborg include the departments in Borås, Skene and Ulricehamn, which perform approximately 100,000 radiological examinations annually. The departments already use Sectra RIS (Radiology Information System) and, as part of ongoing digitization, Sectra has been selected to supply the image-management system (PACS). The new system will be installed during 2004. "Sectra's system provides us the possibility of enhancing the efficiency of our radiology operations, which will generate major savings in the long run," says Dr Gunnar Hellström, Division Manager Medical Services, Southern Älvsborg Hospital. "Integrating PACS, RIS and other IT systems facilitates our work and also provides favorable opportunities for coordination between the hospitals in our region," he adds. The Sectra systems will enable radiology departments at Southern Älvsborg Hospital to work in an entirely paper- and film-free environment. The digital management of requests, patient data and radiology images creates a more efficient workflow. This not only helps cut costs, but also enhances patient care, as referring physicians are able to obtain images and reports more quickly. The high level of security built into the system means the transition to digital radiology can take place without compromising patient integrity and security. "We always aim for long-term and close cooperation with our customers," says Marie Ekström, President of Sectra Scandinavia. "By providing a complete solution for PACS and RIS which can be integrated with the hospital's existing IT systems, we supply tools for a more efficient workflow within radiology operations in the Southern Älvsborg region." Sectra is one of today's major diagnostic imaging providers with more than 420 installations worldwide. Sectra's core business is to deliver top-of-the-line, high-availability, robust enterprise diagnostic imaging for 24/7 operation. In Scandinavia, Sectra is the market leader with more than 50 percent of all film-free installations. The company also has a large number of systems installed in most major countries in Europe, the Far East and North America, in cooperation with partners. For more information, visit www.sectra.com.
