Nottingham-based signmakers and vehicle livery specialists Allen Signs have helped cook up a tasty new identity for a busy American burger bar.

Graphic designer and owner of Studio Deathray, Matt Clixby, who was in charge of the rebrand for Annie’s Burger Shack and Freehouse in the Lace Market, approached Allen Signs following the opening of its Nottingham office in May 2013.

As well as creating the illuminated external signage, Allen Signs also produced internal signs, vinyl artwork and printed wallpaper featuring a photo of Annie’s family and a forest scene.

Matt said he first stumbled across Allen Signs on the social networking site Twitter.

“I was in search of a signage company and came across Allen Signs on Twitter so it was perfect timing,” said Matt. “As a company Allen Signs has been fantastic to work with. The team grasped the vision Annie and I were trying to create and successfully met the brief.”

Account Manager Glen Merryweather worked closely with Matt and Annie to develop the design ideas for the new restaurant.

“It was a great pleasure to work with a successful business like Annie’s Burger Shack,” said Glen. “The project was a lot of fun, as was working alongside Annie and Matt.

“Since the opening of our Nottingham office we have been building up our client base and being involved in the rebrand of Annie’s Burger Shack has been a fantastic opportunity.”

Annie’s Burger Shack was first established in 2009 in The Old Angel pub in Nottingham. Owing to its popularity the restaurant moved to bigger premises at The Navigation Inn and then into its own premises at 5 Broadway in Nottingham’s Lace Market on 10th January 2014.

Annie Spaziano, owner of Annie’s Burger Shack, said she is always keen to support other local independent businesses.

“From the start I have been very specific about sourcing local produce for my burgers,” explained Annie. “I continued in this mindset when planning my own restaurant - I wanted to only partner with local businesses, so when I heard that Allen Signs were also based in Nottingham, they were a perfect fit!

“All of Allen Signs’ ideas were great and totally connected with my and Matt’s visualisation of the new restaurant.

“The team was fantastic; from the start they were professional and friendly. I will definitely be working with them again on future projects – they are now part of the team!”
