Business honour for The Totem Pole

A unique early years training and resource centre in Lincolnshire has won a coveted business award.
The Totem Pole, based in the grounds of the Belton Woods Hotel near Grantham, won the People Development category in the Grantham Journal Business Awards.
The family business, set up in October 2009 by lead consultant and trainer Mary Barlow, Karen Barlow and Rob Barlow, focuses on the Early Years Foundation Stage and takes a ‘bottom-up’ approach to children’s learning.
The Totem Pole now employs eight staff and associates and trains a wide range of early years professionals from schools, children’s centres and day nurseries as well as childminders, parents and carers.
In the past year The Totem Pole has supported more than 1,200 people in its training programmes and worked with over 150 different organisations across the county and beyond.
“We’re delighted to have been chosen for this award just 18 months after setting up our business,” said Mary Barlow.
“We know that our training and resources have a significant impact on the children and the staff who work to educate and care for them.
“The beneficial impact of our work is often identified by Ofsted when they visit settings and the feedback we receive from people who work with us is always positive.”
The Grantham Journal’s annual celebration of the best of business in the Grantham area took place in the grounds of Belton House just outside Grantham.
