News Release

22nd January 2013

GPs from Grimsby have been recognised for their forward thinking by the Health Secretary.

During a visit to The Roxton Practice in Immingham last week, Jeremy Hunt and MP Martin Vickers talked to doctors about their recent achievements and plans to create a new way of working across 30 GP practices.

NHS North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is submitting a competitive bid for a share of The Prime Minister’s £50m Challenge Fund to bring these ideas to life. Successful applications will be announced in March 2014.

This work will support a pilot which will see local GPs, community services and hospitals offering more services seven days a week from April 2014 onwards.

“It was great to speak to Jeremy Hunt and be recognised for the really innovative work we’re doing to help shape the future of services locally and nationally,” said Dr Peter Melton, Chief Officer for North East Lincolnshire CCG.

“Mr Hunt wanted to know more about our unique commissioning arrangements which means local people get the care they need, when they need it.

“More people are receiving health and social care services in the community, thanks to our single point of access phone number which is helping to free up hospital beds for people who need them most.

“Our 30 GP practices are working together to make it easier for people to see a doctor or nurse at a time which suits them, without compromising on care. Seven-day working will help GP practices, hospitals and community services work better together and I’m delighted that GPs from North East Lincolnshire CCG are helping to influence decision making at a national level,” he added.
