News Release

6th June 2011

Six Lincoln businesses have joined forces to raise money for local cancer charity Candles and SOS Children’s Villages by organising a masquerade ball at the EPIC Centre on Saturday 16th July.

Julie Taylor from GTI Consultancy, Sheena Chapman from The Works, Andy Clayton from the Energy Cell, Kate Strawson from Shooting Star PR and Alex Gray from Delta-Simons – all of whom are Lincoln Business Club committee members – have teamed up with Jo Wilson from Fill the Gap Marketing.

Together they hope to raise thousands of pounds, half of which wil l go to Candles which fundraises for Professor Oleg Eremin, based at Lincoln County Hospital. Professor Oleg Eremin is researching immunotherapy, an alternative cancer treatment that uses the body’s immune system to fight disease rather than treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

The other half of the money raised will be donated to SOS Children’s Villages which builds communities for children overseas who have nobody to turn to. Traditionally it provides children with a home, a family and a new mother in a purpose-built local village where they can stay until they are ready for independent life.

The Masquerade Ball promises to be a fantastic evening with a champagne reception followed by a three-course meal with wine and a raffle, all of which will be accompanied by live music from Running Red and a disco.

As well as raising money for charity the aim of the event is to bring Lincoln businesses together and promote local products and services.

Some of the firms who’ve already been enlisted include Cross Keys Catering Company based in Stow who will be providing the catering and the bar and Ruddocks who have kindly sponsored all of the printing for the event.

Julie Taylor from GTI Consultancy said: “Sheena and I sit on the Lincoln Business Club committee and we discovered we both have a passion for two very different charitable causes.

“Candles is The Works’ Charity of the Year while I have long been a supporter of SOS Children’s Villages and recently went to see some of the amazing work they are doing to help children worldwide.

“Sheena came up with the idea of organising a masquerade ball as a way of raising funds for both charities and having lots of fun at the same time. Sheena and I soon realised we’d need some help, however, so we approached our fellow Lincoln Business Club committee members Andy, Alex and Kate and Jo from Fill the Gap Marketing who were only to happy to help!”

As well as buying tickets for the ball Julie and Sheena are also appealing for other local business to support the event by donating prizes for the raffle which will be drawn on the night.

Tickets for the Charity Masquerade Ball at the EPIC Centre on the Lincolnshire Showground on   Saturday 16th July are now available and cost £60 each. Tables of ten including four bottles of wine are also available for the discounted price of £550 while sponsorship packages start from £750 and all include gifts for the ladies and champagne .
