24th June 2011

A jam-packed weekend of fundraising is being planned by Lincoln cancer research charity Candles.

The charity will stage two events next month to help raise awareness and money for the cause.

On Friday 8th July Candles will host a garden party at the Cathedral Centre from 2pm until 5pm. Champagne, fresh strawberries and scones with jam and cream can be enjoyed by guests for just £12.

Meanwhile the charity’s annual cheese and wine evening will take place on Sunday 10th July at 6pm at Skellingthorpe Community Centre. Professor Oleg Eremin, who is conducting research into alternative cancer treatments, will be in attendance. Entry costs just £5 per person.

Candles is a fundraising charity for cancer research founded in 2001 by Pam Connock and Dyllys Firth from Skellingthorpe after they underwent treatment for the disease.

The charity fundraises for Professor Oleg Eremin, based at Lincoln County Hospital, and his research into immunotherapy – an alternative cancer treatment that uses the body’s immune system to fight disease rather than treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Pam Connock, MBE, said: "It’s going to be a busy weekend but a lovely way for people who want to make a donation to help raise money for such an important cause.

“We’ve had fantastic support from people in the past and it’s important we keep the momentum going with our fundraising efforts.”
