News Release

4th April

First he conquered the highest mountain in Africa and now Waldeck Director Martin Osborne, from Peterborough, is attempting to trek 40 km from Cusco to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Last year Martin (39) climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity in memory of his sister Bridget Osborne who was knocked down by an ambulance which lost control on ice while walking her dog near her home in Langtoft near Bourne on 17th December 2009.

He raised over £5000 for the Wood Green Animal Shelter in Godmanchester where Bridget used to volunteer.

“Bridget was a very caring person and spent a lot of her time helping out at animal rescue centres both in the UK and abroad,” explained Martin.

“She loved animals and used to bring a lot of the rescue dogs home with her. In fact my parents still look after one of the dogs she adopted at their home in Peterborough.”

The 10-day remote mountain trek to the legendary Lost City of the Incas in Machu Picchu is via the Lares trek which is a challenging path climbing up to 4600m.

Martin is hoping to beat his last fundraising total of just over £5,000 and is organizing a number of events between now and 2nd November, when he’s due to fly out to Peru for the start of the trek.

“I was overwhelmed by people’s generosity when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and would like to thank all those who sponsored me.

“Fingers crossed I will get a similar response this time round and raise lots more money for the Wood Green Animal Shelter which has been rescuing and rehoming animals since 1924.”

If you would like to sponsor Martin please visit his JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.co.uk/osborne. For more information about Wood Green Animal Shelter please visit www.woodgreen.org.uk.
