News release

9th October 2013

A major event featuring international speakers will be brought to the masses thanks to onlincolnshire.

The Lincolnshire County Council-run project is to ‘wire up’ this year’s LincUpLive event at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln on 24th October. The event, entitled ‘Tomorrow’s Business: Innovation Growth Regeneration’, will provide delegates with tips and advice on how to keep up with and embrace new technologies and business practices.

As part of the ‘wired’ activity, onlincolnshire will live-stream all the keynote speakers as they take to the stage via www.onlincolnshire.org. They include Redg Snodgrass, founder of Stained Glass, a wearable-technology incubator based in Silicon Valley, US; Steve Middleborough, Director of Engineering at Siemens; and Wayne Gibbins, an Associate at Notion Capital.

A crew has also been filming short clips from the project’s Lincolnshire Technology Hubs which will be played at the event to showcase what they offer. The first hub was launched in Mablethorpe in May this year, with a further three expected to open before Christmas. A team of 20 students from the University of Lincoln has also been drafted in to keep all the action updated online via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Instagram.

Councillor Colin Davie, Executive Member for Economic Development at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “This event is expected to attract a huge number of people on a national scale. It seemed the perfect opportunity to help demonstrate the power of the internet, and the work we have been doing to help people across Lincolnshire get better connected.”

The wired activity is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Organiser of LincUpLive, Glenn Le Santo, said: “We are delighted to have onlincolnshire here to help bring even more attention to this event.

“The day will be split into speaker presentations, breakout sessions and networking, so those attending will be able to tailor the conference to suit their own interests by choosing which sessions to attend.”

Tickets are still available for LincUpLive 2013 via www.lincuplive2013.eventbrite.co.uk. Keep up with the conversation using #LUL360 on Twitter and following the onlincolnshire Facebook page and YouTube channels.

  • onlincolnshire is a Lincolnshire County Council-run project which is part-funded by the East Midlands European Regional Development Fund Programme 2007 to 2013.
  • Some Internet users in rural Lincolnshire experience speeds of less than 1 Mbps. The UK’s average broadband speed is 7.6 Mbps, according to Ofcom.

  • The contract with BT concentrates on an intervention area of over 150,000 premises where existing or planned commercial roll outs would not deliver superfast speeds. This will mean that at least 94% of all premises should have access to fibre broadband by April 2016.
