Sigma expands cooperation with Kockums
Sigma and Kockums have signed an exclusive agreement for the joint marketing and further development of digital information systems (DIS). The two companies have also renewed their framework agreement regarding consulting support.
Partnership agreement pertaining to digital information systems (DIS) The partnership agreement for the joint marketing and further development of DIS remains in effect until 2010. The agreement represents the continuation of cooperation that was initiated five years ago when Kockums secured an order for new Visby-class corvettes from the Swedish Defense Matériel Administration. One of the requirements specified when the new vessels were ordered was that all documentation on board should be electronic, the reason being that paper documentation is difficult to track, is heavy and takes up a lot of space on board. Sigma was assigned the task of developing a digital solution that would structure the information and facilitate updating. Other requirement specifications were that the solution should be web-based and license-free and provide an extremely high level of security. The application has been enthusiastically received by its users in the Swedish Navy, and Kockums and Sigma now see considerable potential for using the system in other applications, both in the defense sphere and for business purposes. The primary focus will be on large industrial companies with complex products, the use of which requires large amounts of technical documentation. “We have now developed an application in cooperation with one of the most demanding customers in Sweden in terms of functionality, security and usability,” says Carl Vikingson, President of Sigma Information Design. “In view of the favorable reception of the product, we see considerable potential for replicating the solution and broadening its applciation to both new and existing customers.” “The solution we have developed jointly with Sigma has enormous potential for becoming a highly significant application in many areas of operations,” says Peter Rehnström, ILS Manager at Kockums AB. “We have great confidence in Sigma and their ability to apply their expertise to further developing the application to serve both military and commercial purposes.” Renewed framework agreement for consulting support The renewed framework agreement for consulting support covers support for the development and introduction of information-processing solutions. The partnership was initiated in 2002, when Sigma became Kockums’ principal supplier of solutions for document-handling, intranet and publication of technical documentation.
