Sigma modernizes Warehouse Operating System for IKEA in Switzerland

Sigma was instructed to submit an offer within the framework of the modernization of the control system of IKEA Lager und Service AG´s Warehouse Operating System. After fierce competition with several well-known bidders, Sigma received the contract.

"We have chosen Sigma IT Solutions AG as supplier because we have had a very positive co-operation for many years with this company. We know that they have extensive knowledge and competence in several fields and we have a lot of trust in this company. The final decision for Sigma IT-Solutions AG was also steered by the technical concept they proposed in their offer in which we saw a big advantage compared to the other competitors," says Andreas Strub, Distribution Manager for IKEA Lager und Service AG, Itingen. The IKEA Lager und Service AG operates its central warehouse for Switzerland, Italy and Austria in Itingen, Switzerland. An automated high-rack system handles the goods from the delivery point to its destination in the depot. The decision to modernize the Warehouse Operating System has far-reaching consequences with regard to the existing components of control of the transport system. The intelligence of the transport system is distributed as a widespread network of components for control, e.g. programmable controller with interchangeable memory (SPS), sensors, controller, network for data communication, computers, etc. Examples of activities in the field of controllers, data communication and its interfaces are: Replacement of components for control Replacement and adjustment of software for control Integration and connection of components for control to their interfaces Replacement of old network with serial interfaces by a TCP/IP Ethernet Implementation of options in the area of positioning systems, data transfer and controllers. "With this project Sigma IT-Solutions AG extends its niche expertise in the field of IT-Solutions for transports and logistics. This contract is a confirmation of the successful co-operation with IKEA and represents an important element for the intended long-term partnership." says Walter Weiss, Managing Director of Sigma IT-Solutions AG.
