Entries to the forthcoming Silverstone Classic Sale are literally off to a flying start with the news that a 1992 Benetton Formula One car raced by both Michael Schumacher and Martin Brundle is one of the first confirmed lots.

The sale, hosted by Silverstone Auctions, will take place at the home of British motorsport on 21st July as part of the Silverstone Classic weekend, which is the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

This particular car, a Benetton B192- 02, comes race-ready and is equipped with a Ford HB V8 engine capable of producing more than 700bhp. It is estimated at between £250,000 to £280,000.

Schumacher drove this car in his first full season with the Benetton team and it paved the way for countless future successes with designers Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “When it comes to modern racing legends, seven-time world champion Schumacher has to be one of the best. Brundle was also a world-class competitor who enjoyed considerable Formula One and sportscar glories and whose informative television commentaries more lately have established him as a household name in the UK.

“If this car’s fantastic race pedigree isn’t reason enough to make it particularly attractive to potential bidders, then there’s also the prospect that this Benetton has been prepared for action by renowned Formula One specialists Earl Goddard and Dick Langford and is ready to take to the track.”

Benetton finished a very respectable third in the Manufacturers Championship in 1992, helped in no small part by this very car. Indeed, many of the features found on this Benetton were the foundation for Schumacher’s 1994 and 1995 title winning cars.

“Silverstone Auctions is very excited to be back at the Silverstone Classic weekend. Last year we enjoyed a very successful auction and we are looking forward to building upon that success. As well as this and a number of other high-profile motorsport cars, there will also be a wide range of classic cars, modern sports cars, motorbikes and automobilia for sale,” added Nick.
