Skanska has signed a contract with the Washington State Department of Transportation to reconstruct both lanes of the Interstate 5 freeway at its interchange with Washington State Route 16 in Tacoma, USA. The contract is worth USD 122M, about SEK 1.0 billion, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska USA Civil in the third quarter 2016.

A key element of the design-build project is the construction of HOV lanes in both directions of I-5 within the project limits. Additionally, the scope of work includes the construction of four direct connector ramps between the SR 16 HOV lanes and the I-5 HOV lanes.

Construction will begin in September 2016 with completion scheduled for July 2019.
