At the Posidonia 2018 trade fair (Athens, 4 – 8 June), SKF will show its extensive range of solutions that enhance safety and reduce maintenance costs in the marine sector.

Gothenburg, Sweden, 15 May 2018: SKF, the knowledge engineering company, will use Posidonia 2018 to demonstrate its importance as a single, reliable source for the global marine industry – thanks to its broad portfolio of products and long-standing expertise in the sector.

Visitors to the international shipping exhibition, which takes place in Athens, Greece on 4-8 June this year, will see a range of SKF products to help them across their entire business – whether it is carrying out maintenance work in the most efficient way,  ensuring onboard safety or staying in compliance with changing environmental regulations. .

Visitors to SKF’s stand will be able to see SKF Condition Monitoring Kits, which simplify and improve the process of data monitoring onboard ship, extend service intervals, reduce maintenance costs and generate cost savings for the customers

They will also have the opportunity to access a shaft line exhibit, showing a variety of Machine Support precision mechanical services – including shaft alignment, machine chocking and mounting, on-site machining in addition to an SKF Cooper split bearing solution.

Furthermore, SKF will highlight the issue of counterfeit bearings – and will display both genuine and counterfeit SKF bearings on its stand. Counterfeit products are becoming a key industry issue: if installed in safety critical equipment, they can raise the safety risk for people and the environment.

Visitors to the stand will be able to access the SKF Authenticate app, to find out which of the displayed bearings is the genuine one.

The app is available for free, for both Apple and Android devices. A user who suspects a product may be counterfeit takes a photograph of it and sends it to SKF via the app. SKF then analyses the photo and responds to the user regarding the component’s authenticity.

Other SKF products on show at Posidonia include:

  • a wire rope lubrication system – including groove cleaner – that maximises safety, cuts downtime and extends the life cycle of ropes on-board;
  • SKF's OK Coupling solutions, which use oil injection to reduce coupling mounting and dismounting times to just one hour and,
  • Hydraulic bolts that offer remarkable time-savings during first installation and maintenance while eliminating the risk of damaging the coupling when removing the bolts

SKF experts will be on hand to give information and advice on the company’s complete range of marine industry products and services. Visitors can also discuss their specific needs, to find the best way to optimise their own applications.
